It is this first breath to which the fragrance owes its name: Atmah, inspired by the Sanskrit word Atman, a fundamental term that speaks to the vital essence, the innermost spirit of every living being. The name also resonates with her family’s legacy. In 1898, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, Olivia’s great-great-grandfather, acquired a cruising yacht named Atmah. Perfume
From the very first notes, Orpur™ CO₂ pink peppercorns illuminate the composition. Their freshness colors the air, infusing it with a crystalline vibrancy. “I cherish this lively spark, which instantly sets the fragrances in motion,” confides Louise Turner. This spicy burst then settles into a bouquet of white flowers, with sunny Natsublim™ tuberose entwined with the satiny essence of jasmine cream. Together, they introduce fluidity and movement, while Rosyfolia™, with its hints of pink petals, captures the light. Heart notes of Orpur™ CO₂ vanilla unveil the ingredient’s purity and depth. The living foundation of the composition is elevated by this interplay of contrasts. Ambrofix™, a amber glow with mineral reflections, amplifies the scent’s resonance, while Akigalawood™ extends this clear, textured vibration. “It forms the backbone that keeps the fragrance elevated,” emphasizes Louise Turner. In this delicate balance, Orpur™ vetiver des sables adds a salty energy and an earthy anchor, while Orpur™ ambrette seeds, with their iridescent and almost syrupy accents, envelop the vanilla. The scent then unfolds into white musk, an invisible organza that caresses the senses. In her inaugural creation for Caron, Louise Turner unveils her instinctive sensitivity and mastery of composition. “My challenge was to illuminate this magnificent ingredient in a fresh light, imbuing it with a mineral and vibrant strength.” This fragrance tells the tale of a meeting between two visionary women. Olivia conjures images, colors, emotions, and landscapes; Louise, with her virtuosity, translates them into accords and ingredients, sculpting them with precision to breathe new life into their essence. “Olivia speaks of infinite horizons, of breath and unbounded freedom. I sought to manifest these images within the formula, to transcribe them through scent.” This dialogue birthed a creative collaboration, a shared language bridging artistic direction and composition. It was a union that felt destined, a partnership that imparts beauty and uniqueness to Atmah.
Refillability
In the early 80s, CARON was the first perfume house to offer bottles that could be refilled in-store. The fountains, masterpieces of craftsmanship made from Baccarat or Daum crystal, embody this heritage.
Today, CARON offers the opportunity to continue this ritual at home. The bottles from the Collection Merveilleuse and Aimez-Moi Comme Je Suis can be refilled both in-store and at home.
